Getting Started With PLM: How It Works

The world of PLM can be daunting, and it can be difficult to know where to start or what to expect before you pick up the phone.

Getting started with PLM

Here we have outlined what you should expect when you ask Design Rule to help you choose and implement a PLM system for your business. These five steps will help put your business on the road to success:

1. Get in Touch with Design Rule

Many of our customers are at different stages of their purchasing decision when they contact us. We are happy to help whether you know exactly which product you need or you’re completely new to the world of PLM. The first step is to give us a call and have a conversation about how we can help you. We will get to know your business, your goals, and any problems within your business that you hope to solve using PLM. We will then be able to suggest some PLM solutions that will help you meet your objectives.

2. Product Demos, Consultations and Trials

The next step depends on where you are in your software selection process. If you need some advice and guidance then, as part of our PLMDiscover approach, we would arrange an on-site visit to you from one of our PLM specialists to better understand your business and requirements and discuss a business value assessment. This is typical for solutions like 3DEXPERIENCE and Delmia. For design applications like CATIA we can arrange a product demonstration and we offer a free 30-day trial for Kisters visualisation software. During this time, you will be able to explore your options in more detail and we can answer any questions you may have to help you decide on a product.

3. Implement the Software

Once you have all the information you need to make an informed decision about which product is right for your business, we will be able to implement the software for you, with our PLMDeliver methodology. PLM software can be complicated to integrate into your business, but our experts have over 100 years’ experience in implementing PLM solutions and we can provide a system that is right for your existing setup, for as many different users as you need, across a range of computer devices and skill levels.

4. Receive PLM Software Training

When your PLM system is set up, some or all of your users may need some training to help your company get to grips with the software and get the most out of your investment. At Design Rule, we offer a wide range of CATIA and ENOVIA training which can take place either at your place of work, at our Silverstone office, or online. From fundamentals to more advanced PLM training courses, we can help users at all skill levels.

5. Ask for Software Support

Even if you don’t need training, we don’t simply install your software and then go on our way. Our support desk is available to help you with any issues you may have when using the software. If you need help using a particular feature or run into any technical trouble, we’re only a phone call away and more than happy to help.
